Knowledge management is the main focus of discussion academics (researchers) and is used by practitioners to improve performance. The rapid development of the business world has an impact on the demands of research development, tacit knowledge is forced to be made explicit in order to meet market needs. Knowledge shifts from academia to the market (practical), the success of knowledge is measured by its performance. Design / methodology / approach - Following a mixed methods approach, the authors review relevant literature at the intersection of knowledge management, tacit knowledge, explicit knowledge and performance. Double membership as lecturers and practitioners, causes conflicts of interest, lecturers who should maintain the ideal of thinking and research results for knowledge on the other hand as practitioners (company research teams) who are asked what about the company's research results are more competitive. There is a conflict of interests of lecturers referred to as industrial intellectual profits.
