G. Masaryk, Edvard BenešAbstract: The collapse of the Habsburg monarchy and the emergence of its hereditary states was a great process, but in many details, from one case to another, it was very different. In the discussion through the comparative outline of events, the author looks for similarities and differences in the formation of two successor states – the first Czechoslovak Republic and the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenians from the perspective of two national and political strategies – Czech and Slovenian. In addition, it concludes in the end what the heritage of both political entities is today, when neither is on the European political map any longer.
