Relevance. The purpose of this study is to identify trends in the formation of the contingent of students in the specialty 36.05.01 “Veterinary medicine” in Russian universities in 2013–2020. Methods. The study used methods such as analysis, synthesis, source analysis. The main aspect of the study is the change in the number of students in the specialty 36.05.01 “Veterinary medicine” in Russian universities. Results. Based on the analysis and assessment of data on changes in the structure of the contingent of students in the specialty 36.05.01 “Veterinary medicine”, it is possible to draw conclusions about the presence of the following trends. 1. Increase in demand for educational program 36.05.01 “Veterinary medicine”. 2. Assistance from the state in increasing the availability of the educational program 36.05.01 “Veterinary medicine” by increasing the number of regions with the training of veterinarians and developing markets for full-time and part-time education. The increase in the admission target figures for these forms of education contributed to the more active development of these forms of education by universities and the attraction of citizens not only to budgetary, but also to paid places. 3. Feminization of higher veterinary education.
