Today, virtual and augmented reality technologies are most popular in the field of education. This article provides an analysis and example of the development of a digital educational platform, the results of a survey among students, and the problem points encountered in the process of implementation. There are demonstrated stages of development of one of the main elements of the digital educational platform - a virtual laboratory. The virtual laboratory was developed for the discipline "Electrical machines". There was realized the model of the laboratory bench, which was used in the traditional mode of teaching. The developed virtual laboratory can help technical students to get closer to the devices and technologies, to understand their structure and operation as a whole, and will also contribute to the development of their professional skills.
