This paper highlights the importance of the role of female vocalists (đào nương) associated with the historical origins of Catru art, and their influence on the trend to enjoy this kind of art. Through female vocalists’ role, existence and evolution rules of Catru are thoroughly understood. From popular trend, Catru exists in the form of communal house theater in the village (hát cửa đình), banquet theater (hát khao vọng), etc. going hand-in-hand with madarin home theater (hát nhà tơ), bar (ca quán), and determining the orientation to preserve and promote Catru art.
