The paper generally introduces the history and role of complexity science in contemporary scientific research, and then points out arisen problems of philosophical methodology in the case of complexity science through the presentation of Edgar Morin’s thoughts. From the standpoint of Marxist methodology, the paper comes to make initial related comments. The characteristics and properties of complex systems can be fully explained based on the methodology of dialectical materialism. Morin’s idea of complexity methodology, although coming later, has more in common with Marxist methodology.
