The Franco-religious scholar and Franco-philosopher still remains little known, despite the fact that his works on such issues have long been published. If in Soviet times he was considered a materialist, revolutionary-democrat, atheist, and anti-clerical, nowadays such topics are simply avoided. One of the most recent fundamental studies in the field of religious studies is the ethnology of religion. The author of the monograph and a number of publications on this topic, Lyudmila Fylypovych, states that Ivan Franko's contribution to the study of ethno-religious problems is determined not only by the fact that he gave general theoretical definitions of religion, ethnicity, nation, ethno-confessionality, examined the history of ethno-confessional relations, and analysis , but also offered new methodological approaches to understanding the content and meaning of the historical process.
