The release of the Ostroh Bible in 1581 was a huge event in the history of Ukrainian culture. The book was recognized by the entire Slavic world, which contributed to its rapid spread among the Slavic peoples. For 170 years the Ostroh Bible has become the most revered publication and not worthy of its rival. The importance of the Ostroh Bible among other cultural and historical circumstances was also conditioned by the fact that its publication was attended by well-known figures of Ukrainian history and culture of the sixteenth century. Among them are the prominent Ukrainian polemicist Gerasim Smotrytsky.
