The article describes the history of elimination of the most dangerous diseases of cattle in the history ― rinderpest and contagious pleuropneumonia. Brief information on the history of the study of these diseases, medicals and veterinarians who worked in this field before the period of creation of vaccines and historical aspects of the fight against these diseases from the late XIX to the XX century, including the use of specific methods of prevention in different parts of the world and different countries. Programs of control and elimination of these diseases with use of vaccines and without their application are analyzed in historical aspect. As a result of joint work of scientists and practitioners, it was possible to completely eliminate the rinderpest on the globe and heal most countries of the world from contagious pleuropneumonia of cattle.
