In Cairo, in a place called Matareya, live 4000 'zabbalins' or garbage collectors in sub-human conditions - in environments similar to those of the 'villas m iserias' of Buenos Aires, the 'favelas' of Mexico, the 'barradas' of Lima and the slums of Bombay and Calcutta.
