The article, based on statistical materials and periodicals of the Russian Empire, attempts to show the process of formation of cultural and spiritual centers of the town of Kovalivka. The peculiarities of church building and spiritual-educational activity of the local Orthodox parish, the specifics of the activity of the local priest in the line of the general imperial policy of struggle against various currents of Protestantism are analyzed. An attempt is made to shed light on new facts from the history of Odessa County through an analysis of the process of formation and development of schools and religious centers of the settlement. An analysis of the impact of school education on the population of the settlement. The peculiarities of their educational activity both within the town and outside it have been clarified.
