‘Oakley CL’ (Reg. No. CV‐1105, PI 670170) hard red winter wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar was developed at the Agricultural Research Center‐Hays, Kansas State University, and released by the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station in 2013. Oakley CL carries one Clearfield gene and has tolerance to Beyond herbicide (a.i. imazamox). Oakley CL was selected from a three‐way cross of ‘Above’/‘Danby’//KS03HW10 using a modified bulk breeding method. The objective of the cross was to develop a hard winter wheat cultivar with herbicide resistance and adaptation to the semiarid climate in western Kansas and its adjacent regions. Oakley CL is an F 6 –derived line. Oakley CL was released primarily for its tolerance to Beyond herbicide, high grain yield potential under nonirrigated conditions in western Kansas, resistance to Wheat streak mosaic virus and stripe rust (caused by Puccinia striiformis Westend.), good end‐use quality, and preharvest sprouting tolerance.
