Registration of ‘Saluki 4411’ Soybean with Resistance to Sudden Death Syndrome and HG Type 0 (Race 3) Soybean Cyst Nematode

‘Saluki 4411’ (Reg. No. CV‐506, PI 665036), soybean [ Glycine max (L.) Merr.], tested under the name LS05‐3229, was developed by Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. It was jointly released by Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and the University of Missouri–Columbia in the spring of 2011. The main objective of the release of Saluki 4411 was to make available to producers and researchers a high‐yielding cultivar with disease resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN; Heterodera glycines Ichinohe) and sudden death syndrome (SDS; caused by Fusarium virguliforme O’ Donnell & T. Aoki, sp. nov.), the most important pest and disease of soybeans in the Midwest. Saluki 4411 is an F 5 –derived line developed from a cross between ‘LS93‐0375’ and ‘Ina’ and advanced from the F 2 generation by the modified single‐seed descent method. In southern Illinois yield trials conducted over 4 yr (2007–2010) combining 20 tests, Saluki 4411 exhibited a yield of 3844 kg ha −1 , 6.5% better than its parental line LS93‐0375. It also yielded 1.4% more than ‘LD00‐3309’ and 1.2% more than ‘LD00‐2817P’ from 2008 to 2010 in both the Uniform Soybean Tests, Northern Region (Uniform Tests) and the Northern Regional SCN Test. Saluki 4411 has a relative maturity of 4.4 and was released in the spring of 2011 because of its competitive seed‐yield performance and its high level of resistance to SCN HG Type 0 (Race 3) and to SDS.
