The article deals with an obscure critical response to the novel by A. Remizov, that turned to be the Russian emigrees’ first creative attempt of understanding the revolutionary disaster through the prism of autobiographical prose. The author details the reception of the novel from the perspective of the «historical» reader — a contemporary whose historical and cultural experiences are similar to the mundane and creative experiences of the writer. Rare epistolary materials help to reconstruct the history of the relationship between Ivan Lukash and Alexei Remizov.
