The article presents a profound analysis of A. S. Pushkin’s translation "From A. Chénier" («The cover, soaked by caustic blood…»), which constitutes a case study demonstrating how the dramatic aesthetic of the sublime and theoretical refl ections on the scenic pathos in the second half of the 18th — the beginning of the 19th centuries provides a fruitful context for a poetic experiment that is supposed to transform Pushkin’s creative strategies.
