Humor is a complex and dynamic mode of communication that serves a number of importantsocial functions.It has been claimed that humor is helpful in the context of learning. The presentstudy aimed at constructing and validating a test to measure learners’ English humorcomprehension ability and establishing its relationship with their humor style and achievement.This study is comprised of two phases including the validation of questionnaires and thecorrelational survey. The participants for the validation phase were 275 Iranian advanced Englishlanguage learners and for the second part were 210 learners from both genders. This studyutilized two tests and one questionnaire which are Preliminary English Test (PET), EnglishHumor Comprehension Test, and Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ).The results ofconfirmatory factor analysis indicated that English humor comprehension test with 19 items andthree main sub-constructs (Quantity, manner, and relevance)is a valid and reliable test. Inaddition, it was revealed that both humor comprehension ability and humor style are positivesignificant predicators of learners’ language proficiency. Finally, a positive significantcorrelation was found between humor comprehension ability and humor style.
