A 4 year retrospective study (August 1983- August 1987) of adverse reactions produced by thiacetazone in 1250 pulmonary tuberculosis (T.B.) patients over 15 years of age is reported. Thiacetazone was used in combination with isonizid and rifampicin or streptomycin. The reactions were commoner in younger patients, females and mongoloid races and mostly occured early in treatment. The overall reaction rate was relatively low (4.16%) and continued use of thiacetazone under supervision in areas where cost is important is recommended.
