Roman Senchin (born in 1971) is one of the most expressive spokesmen for hisgeneration and one of the most prominent exponents of “new realism” of “the noughties”.The aim of this article is to identify central motifs in selected literary works of thiscontemporary Russian writer and literary critic, to present his artistic conceptionof creating a character, and to show distinguishing features and characteristicsof Senchin’s “little man”. This paper analyzes Senchin’s three collections of short storiesand stories: Nothing scaring (Ничего страшного, 2007), Moscow shadows (Московскиетени, 2009), On the black stairs (На чёрной лестнице, 2009).
