The paper deals with technological analysis of the complex of the Early Palaeolithic of Transnistria from layer 5 at the site of Bayraki dating from the Eiopleistocene (Jaramillo event, 1 mil. BP). Among the collection (888 items), all the categories of lithics are represented including nuclei, flakes and chips, while the pebble forms are tools on flakes. The stone industry is based on large pebble forms from sandstone and abundant small flint artefacts. Comparison of the industry from layer 5 with Oldowan complexes demonstrates their marked similarity. These nonsimultaneous industries can be attributed to a single technocomplex of Mode 1.
