On the basis of finds from graves with coins at the Timerevo, Mikhaylovskoye and Petrovskoye cemeteries, this paper is an attempt to compare the dates obtained on the basis of grave goods and the dates of minting of the coins defined through their composition. The results stress the necessity of caution when using numismatic materials for dating burials and demonstrate the present impossibility of applying any universal formula in order to calculate the lag coef- ficient for coins.
