On the example of the works of Ukrainian artists O. Sokolov (1919–1990), V. Bakhchanyan (1938–2009),V. Barsky (1930–2012) the article considers the theme of interaction of text and image in Ukrainian art ofthe second half of the XX century. The peculiarities of the synthetic nature of the work of these artists areconnected, on the one hand, with the originality of the talent of each of them, combining painting and literature, on the other — with the desire to go beyond established in Soviet art genre-species boundaries, in its own way constructing artistic space, where verbal and visual interact closely with each other.
