The analysis of the basic definitions of the terms "concept" and "mythologem" in the scientific discourseof the last decade in the context of cultural, philosophical, literary, linguistic and psychological worksis offered, and the history of these terms is traced. Problems of domestic terminology in the conceptual apparatus of modern cultural studies are raised. The scientifically motivated definition of the concept, the generalized definition of the mythologist, the list and functions that the mythologist performs in the cultural discourse are offered: axiological, nominative, cognitive, regulatory, communicative, aesthetic.
