The article focuses on issues of the importance of plein airs, their impact on the younger generation, on their information, cultural, and educational component. Participation in plein airs forms artist’s style and taste, shapes general worldview. The experience of the older generation and the achievements of peers become an important basis for the development of the artist. In the course ofstudying the existing information on plein airs, systematization of the plein airs of the turn of the 21st century up to the present time was carried out. The main reasons for holding art open-airs, their expediency and importance in modern painting are considered. Along with the plein airs held in Ukraine, the study provides an outline of artistic events abroad, where Ukrainian artists often participate. The works of several famous Lviv artists and their contribution to plein airs, as well as formation of the background of the contemporary Ukrainian intelligentsia are analysed. The article provides information on the participation of artists in various national and international plein airs, as well as brief information on stylistic features. Analysis of the specialized publications showed insufficient attention to this topic, lack of thorough work and systematization. The objective was to study, analyse and systematize plein airs from the end of the 20th century to the present day. Methodological background was formed on the basis of comparative, semiotic, stylistic, cultural and historical methods of scientific research.
