The study examines the issue of the metric organization phenomena that function in the music of different historical periods, i.e. “integrity” (the element of the metric system in the W. Lutosławski’s works of the 1960s and 1970s), tactus and measure. The panoramic overview of these phenomena is caused by the search for the analytic approaches to the temporal aspect in the W. Lutosławski’scompositions of the 1960s and 1970s. The subject of research is the meaning of all mentioned concepts. The main objective is to outline the properties of “integrity” and to reveal the basic meaning of this concept, as the metric “integrity” phenomenon is not well researched in the modern musicology. Besides, the aspect of temporal structuring in W. Lutosławski’s works is insufficiently explored. The phenomenon of integrity is compared with tactus and measure in various aspects. In a historical perspective, the issues of downbeat and up-beat, metric regularity and periodicity are considered. The factors of integrity formation are outlined. It is revealed that such structural metric phenomena as tactus, measure and integrity coexist in the Lutosławski’s works of the 1960s and 1970s. As a result of research, the main content of the integrity, measure and tactus concepts is defined; also, the elements of the content of measureand tactus concepts are revealed that have different interpretations in theory and require, in our opinion, further research. The issue of terminology is commented. The term “integrity” proposed by the author of the article demonstrates the pre-scientific stage of knowledge of the phenomenon. It needs further clarification and possibly replacement with a more adequate definition.
