Low-Temperature Characterization of Hot-Poured Crack Sealant by Crack Sealant Direct Tensile Tester

A modified direct tensile tester method was developed to enable correlate the properties of hot-poured bituminous crack sealants with field performance, especially at low temperatures. The research included a sensitivity analysis of loading rates, sample lengths, and cross-section areas to define both optimal specimen geometry and the testing protocol. Two types of sealants, having a wide range of rheological behaviors (one polymer-modified and one having crumb rubber), were tested at the lowest expected service temperature. low temperature.
