Although totally new in Nepal the technique of Reinforced Earth has many application areas such as support of carriageways in hill roads, slope stablization, flood protection work, bridge abutments, embankment, industrial structures etc. An attempt has been made through this article to familiarize practitioners, engineers with this technique. The article includes basic mechanism of Reinforced Earth, materials, construction methods and its application in Nepal. Also some recommendations for the construction of Reinforced Earth in mountainous environment of Nepal have been given.
