In 1910, a new kingdom appeared in the Balkans – Montenegro. This significant event was celebrated luxuriantly; it was timed to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the reign of Nikola Petrovich-Negosh. Russia, a long-time patron of this Balkan country, awarded the Montenegrin ruler with the highest rank of a Field-Marshal of the Russian Army. However, the newly-made king wanted to gratify his country with new territories. In secret from Saint Petersburg, he was supporting the Albanian revolt in order to add neighboring Albanian territories to Montenegro. Russian diplomats in Cetinje tried to prevent this and exercise influence on King’s foreign policy.
