Summary A short form of the Porch Index of Communicative Ability was derived from results of testing 184 dysphasic patients. A short form consisting of the items, pencil, key, matches, comb and fork was found to correlate highly with the full PICA. Results of retesting 51 patients indicates that shortening the test produces some loss of sensitivity to change when subtests are considered but negligible loss for the scales or overall score.
