Summary The paper gives an account of Broca's historical article “Remarques sur le siège de la faculté du langage articulé” (1861). It focuses on Broca's reflections regarding the general faculty of language. By virtue of a critical analysis of Broca's arguments it is demonstrated that Broca did not advocate the theories of his forerunners, but that he attempted to modify strict localization by proposing localization according to convolutions.
