Summary An extraneous speech behavior, a prevocalization (PV), was analyzed spectrographically and phonetically in 14 cerebral palsied subjects. Seventy‐one% of these subjects demonstrated PV usage. Frequency of PV occurrence and PV duration in msec, were not related. Phonetic analysis of PVs and initial word stop consonants implicated temporal incoordination in manner of articulation with generally intact control over place of articulation.
