Vocal characteristics of a number of patients who had radiotherapy for laryngeal tumours were obtained. It was found that voice quality before treatment was not indicative of the site and stage of the disease. Voice quality after treatment was usually fairly good. A formula is given for quantitative estimates of hoarseness and is followed by a brief discussion on some of its physical causes.
