In a randomised, double‐blind trial, 75 women received either placebo or a 1‐mg gemeprost (Cervagem) pessary for cervical dilatation prior to gynecological procedures which require mechanical dilatation of the cervix. No significant difference was seen between gemeprost and placebo with respect to preoperative cervical dilatation. The incidence of vaginal bleeding and adverse effects was similar in each group.
