. The present work is a comparison of use of the Beolocator® probe method and the ultrasonic B‐technique for location of IUCDs in 44 women whose markers were not visible. Ultrasonic examination indicated the IUCD to be present in the uterine cavity in 32 cases, and gave a negative result for 12 patients. In 2 of these cases the IUCD was correctly detected in the uterus in association with intrauterine pregnancies in the 7th and 10th weeks. On the other hand, one false‐negative result was obtained by ultrasound in the 12th week of pregnancy. Roentgenological control of the nongravidas revealed no false interpretations by ultrasonic examination. On the other hand, roentgenological or clinical control of the Beolocator® probe examination revealed three certain and three obviously false‐negative and two certain false‐positive interpretations of the intra‐uterine location of the IUCD. The disappearance of the IUCD markers is considerably more often due to retraction of the tail into the uterine cavity (75%) than to expulsion of the IUCD (25%).
