The article deals with the historical and pragmatic prerequisites for the emergence and then teaching of the Russian language, first in Korea, and then in the Republic of Korea. The relevance is determined by the ambiguity of the emerging extralinguistic situation in Korea with regard to the Russian language as an element of world culture and the subject of education. The purpose is to analyze the process of functioning of the Russian language in the Korean peninsula over the past hundred years. The reasons for the emergence and decline of interest in learning Russian in this country are analyzed. The hypothesis is put forward about the appeal to the translation of poetic texts as a marker of penetration into the linguistic picture of the world of another ethnic group.
