The article deals with the problem of potential human resources in the historical and psychological context using examples of their relationship with nature in different periods of evolutionary development. It is shown that a person, as a subject of life, is characterized by the desire to creatively transform the surrounding reality and their spiritual world. It is assumed that cognitive purposefulness is a potential resource of the subject of life in any conditions of human existence
