The paper shows that the use of a non-conjugated polymer such as poly(methyl methacrylate) as an electroactive polymer in a metal-polymer-metal structure can demonstrate the effect of charge instability induced by changing the boundary conditions in the region of a first-order phase transition in the contacting metal.
