There are considered basic kinds of steel nitride hardening and mechanism of mass transfer in saturating environment and material worked. The stages of a nitride hardening process are described, there are revealed imperfections of existing technologies and a method for steel nitride hardening in hermetically sealed containers is offered. The results of the experiments on two kinds steel 40H and 4H5MFS are shown.
