The article discussed in detail the stages of formation and development geodemographics as a modern scientific direction of population geography. In the first stage a central place in the knowledge of the population belongs to demographics. In the second stage increases the interaction of demography with neighboring disciplines, including geography. At their junction, a new discipline ‒ Geography of population is forming. In the third stage is forming a new trend of population geography that focuses on the study of regional differences in population and settlement, and development of regional population policy, which we call geodemographics.
