The article considers contemporary clothing of special purpose as a diversified phenomenon of a design culture requiring intensive study. Comparative and historical methods have been used; an axiological approach has been used to study the symbol system semantics in modern design. A systematic approach has been used to analyze the compositional formation of the uniform as part of the cultural and historical process. The analysis of the form development has been made and the main tasks of aesthetic and harmonic formation in the ergonomic design of special-purpose clothing have been determined. Scientific novelty consists in the systematization of theoretical works on the regularities of shaping and «form thinking» in the artistic clothing design. The means of composition arrangement in artwork and design, their correlation problems, main definitions of design have been explored. The bionic approach has been proposed as a means of the system forming «man – special clothing – environment». As a result of scientific research, the main approaches to considering the uniform as an artistic object, which has historical sources, development, gradual improvement of forms, colors, distinction signs have been determined. The visualization of forms in the modern design symbol system of special purpose clothes has been offered.
