
Children in Different Activities: Child Schooling and Child Labour

Using primary data from two districts of Pakistan, thisarticle analyses the supplyside determinants of child labour. The studyfinds that the birth-order of the child has a significant associationwith schooling and labour decision of child: first school enrolment ofchildren is delayed; there exists gender disparity in favour of malechildren; the children from female-headed households are more likely togo to school; the education of the head of household has a positiveimpact on child’s schooling; among the parent’s parameters mother’seducation is more important than father’s; parental education ispositively associated with child schooling and negatively associatedwith child labour. The ownership of assets impacts the schoolingpositively, and labour negatively; the household size affects theschooling negatively, and work positively; and household compositionalso has a significant effect on schooling and child labour. Thechildren from urban areas are more likely to go to school.
