This study has two objectives; (i) to develop a framework forevaluating the operational performance of manufacturing enterprises, and(ii) to evaluate the trend in the performance of Pakistan's vegetableghee industry for the 1970- 1980 period, with special focus on itsrelative performance under private and public ownerships. Section II isdevoted to the vegetable ghee industry itself - its technology,development, pricing and distribution policies. In Section III aframework for performance evaluation is developed. In Section IV weevaluate in a series of steps - the performance of Pakistan's vegetableghee industry. The final section is devoted to concludingcomments.
