Agriculture in Pakistan has experienced a breakthrough whichis com¬monly known as the Green Revolution. This breakthrough wasachieved mainly through the introduction of high yielding varieties ofwheat, rice and maize, increased use of chemical fertilizers, tractors, and substantial private and public investment in water developmentprojects. All this has helped in shifting the country's agriculturalproduction function outward. The agricultural policy of the government, which has encouraged the use of new technology, has also contributed tothis shift and increased resource productivity.
