The recent developments in the agricultural sector ofPakistan, especially in the West Wing, have created great optimism forincreasing food supply. The significance of increasing food supplyshould, however, be judged in relation to the rising demand for foodduring the process of economic growth and foreign-trade opportunitiesfor food. Therefore, when planning for agricultural development to raisefood supply, it is vitally important that the future levels of demandfor food are accurately predicted. Since priorities and investmenttargets have to be based on demand forecasts for different commodities, demand prediction is essential for development planning. The purpose ofthis study is to project the future levels of demand for important fooditems in Pakistan and then analyse the significance of those demands forfuture agricultural development in Pakistan.
