O texto procura desenvolver uma reflexão histórica sobre o processo de recepção do Concílio Vaticano II em duas regiões de “fronteira” no Brasil: Maranhão e Centro-Oeste. Esta recepção foi marcada por uma criatividade significativa. Criatividade esta caracterizada pela capacidade de articular o tradicional e o moderno, favorecendo o empoderamento dos pobres. O instrumento para esta “síntese” foi a criação das Comunidades Eclesiais de Base (CEBs).Abstract: The text attemps to develop a historical reflection on the process of reception of the II Vatican Council in two “frontier” regions in Brazil: the State of Maranhão and the Center-West Region. This reception was marked by a significant creativity, characterized by the capacity to articulate tradition and modernity, favoring the empowerment of the poor. The instrument for this “synthesis” was the creation of the Basic Ecclesiastic Communities (CEBs).
