Because the lnternet has become such a pervasive information medium, the Library at Sussex University decided to investigate how local academic researchers were using it in their work (if at all), and thereby to assess their support requirements. A total of 30 academics were interviewed, and the results indicated that the appropriate support arrangements were decentralised and discipline-based, in terms of staffing, training and maintenance of a local lnternet 'gateway'. These results are in line with those of research on related topics.
