The authors provide an overview of British Columbia's Oil and Gas Commission by examining the policy reasons behind its creation, the structure of its governing act, and the interaction between the Commission and other government agencies. Particular attention is paid to the Commission's role with respect to First Nations, both by consideration of the Commission as an agent of the Crown, in relation to s. 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982and various memoranda of understanding existing between the Province of British Columbia and First Nations, as well as by reference to specific provisions contained within the Commission's governing act.
