The author explores the growth and development of the structured settlement in Canada as a means of assessing damages for injuries and fatalities. The procedure for entering into and implementing a structured settlement is presented with illustrative examples. The author analyzes both the advantages, such as savings in taxes and in surance, and the disadvantages of a structured settlement in arguing that it represents a valuable alternative among compensation techniques.
