In the first half of the ninth century AD, a new dynasty emerged in Malwa which became famous as Parmar dynasty. The first king of this dynasty is considered to be Upendra. He started his life as a feudatory of the Rashtrakutas or Gurjara Pratiharas. The official son of Upendra was Varisingh I. No incidents of his reign are known. The successor of Varisingh was Seyak I. Padmagupta does not mention Varisinh and Siayak I. It is inferred that these two were feudal rulers of ordinary merit. After the death of Seek I, his son Vakpati I became the first king. Dr. According to Ganguly, he fought with his master Rashtrakuta king Indra III against the Pratihara king Mahipal. No other events of his reign are known. नवीं सदी ई. के पूर्वार्द्ध में मालवा मे एक नवीन राजवंश का उदय हुआ जो परमार राजवंश के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ। इस वंश का सर्वप्रथम राजा उपेन्द्र माना जाता है। उसने अपना जीवन राष्ट्रकूट अथवा गुर्जर प्रतिहारों के सामन्त के रूप में आरंभ किया। उपेन्द्र का उत्राधिकारी पुत्र वैरिसिंह प्रथम था। उसके शासन काल की कोई भी घटना ज्ञात नहीं है। वैरिसिंह का उत्तराधिकारी सीयक प्रथम था। पद्मगुप्त वैरिसिंह और सीयक प्रथम का नामोल्लेख नहीं करता इससे अनुमान होता है कि, ये दोनों साधारण योग्यता के सामन्त शासक थे। सीयक प्रथम की मृत्यु के पश्चात् उसका पुत्र वाक्पति प्रथम राजा हुआ। डाॅ. गांगुली के मतानुसार इसने अपने स्वामी राष्ट्रकूट नरेश इन्द्र तृतीय के साथ प्रतिहार नरेश महीपाल के विरूद्ध युद्ध किया था। उसके राज्यकाल की और कोई घटना ज्ञात नहीं है।
