AbstractThis research has as objective to study if the physical self-concept predicts the Risk Eating Behaviors (REB). The sample includes 400 students from 17 to 21 years old of a Private University in Caracas, Venezuela, (Men=57.3%), the following techniques were applied to the sample: (1) Brief Questionnaire of Risk Eating Behaviors (BQREB), and (2) Questionnaire of Physical Self-concept (QPS). The sample was selected through a cluster sampling. The students showed low levels of risk eating behaviors and moderated/high levels of physical self-concept. Through a regression analysis, it was found that the auto-concept referred to the physical satisfaction and to the ability and physical strength predicted the REB, in the sense of: the less auto-concept there is, the greater occurrence of REB is shown. It was also found that with a high body mass index (BMI) it is more frequent to have REB, while women showed to have more of REB purgative/compensatory type. The results allow increasing the comprehension of the REB and open doors to further researches and interventions in this area.
