In the article are considered the features that characterize the level of innovative potential in Russia in compare with other countries. The analysis of dynamics of patent activity in Russia and in the world is conducted, the assessment of condition of national innovative potential is carried out on the base of the analysis of university’s electoral activity, global innovative index, Forbes and Global-500 ratings. Weaknesses of national innovative system are detected and possible options how to increase the efficiency of creating and using the results of intellectual activity are suggested.
